UAE'S ETISALAT GROUP LAUNCHES OPERATIONS IN NIGERIA

ABU DHABI - Etisalat announced Monday the commercial launch of its first application Store in Nigeria.

According to the Uzbek Agency for Communications and Informatization, the subscriber base of mobile operators in Uzbekistan exceeds 24.3 million users, or more than 80 per cent of the population.

JAPANESE INITIATIVE TO CREATE AT-HOME JOBS FOR DISASTER VICTIMS

TOKYO - NTT DoCoMo Inc. (TSE:9437), Softbank Telecom Corp. and more than a dozen other Japanese companies have joined a public-private effort to give disaster victims opportunities to work at home.

The program will start in the Miyagi Prefecture port city of Ishinomaki, where the March 11 tsunami left coastal neighborhoods in ruins. About 20 residents will be recruited later this month for call center operations, data entry and other jobs.

INDIAN TELECOM SECTOR' REVENUE GROWS 7% IN 2010-11

NEW DELHI - Revenues of the Indian telecom sector grew by 7 per cent to Rs 283,207 crore (US$63.8 million) in the 2010-11 financial year, estimates telecom journal Voice&Data says.

During the previous fiscal year total revenue of the sector stood at Rs 264,669 crore.

CANBERRA - Australian mobile phone companies should be banned from using the term "cap" when advertising deals, a report recommends.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) released its draft report on Tuesday following a public inquiry into the telecommunications industry.

INDIA'S TATA TELESERVICES ANNOUNCES NEW BLACKBERRY SERVICE PLANS

NEW DELHI - India's Tata Teleservices (BSE:532371) has announced new BlackBerry service plans to strengthen its existing CDMA clientale and to attract new customers.

Under the promotional scheme, Tata Indicom customer will get BlackBerry messaging services, BlackBerry Internet Service and BlackBerry Enterprise Server at Rs 99, Rs 199 and Rs 599 (US$13.54) respectively for the first three months.

INMARSAT EYEING MALAYSIA AS A GROWTH MARKET FOR COMMS PRODUCTS

SINGAPORE - Inmarsat, the world's leading provider of global mobile satellite communications, sees Malaysia as a growth market for its products in the mining, as well as, oil and gas (O&G) industry.

Director for Land Mobile Business Drew Brandy said the Malaysian mining industry was valued at US$40 billion last year, up 17 per cent, year-on-year, while oil and gas was responsible for 8.4 per cent of the region's supply.

SINGAPORE'S SINGNET HIT WITH FINE OVER SEX-THEMED GAMES

SINGAPORE - Singapore Media Development Authority (MDA) imposed a fine of S$40,000 (US$33,104) on SingNet Pte Ltd for selling sex-themed games.

The materials were found to be offensive to good taste and decency and constituted materials prohibited under the Internet Code of Practice, said MDA in a statement.

TURKISH GSM OPERATOR WINS BEST OPERATION REPORT AWARD

ISTANBUL - Turkey's biggest GSM operator has won the best operation report award, a company statement said on Friday.

The League of American Communications Professionals LLC (LACP) honored Turkcell with "annual report highlights" 2010 award.
